How Does a Private Tour Work?

An unforgettable private tour of Tom’s Brook battlefield on a beautiful, cold, wet November day in 2017.

The short answer is that your tour works any way you want it to.

We will respond to your initial message as soon as we get it, and we will confirm whether we have an opening on the date of your choice.

After that we are flexible about putting together a tour that works exactly the way you want it to. What do you wish to see? How much time do you have? Do you wish to walk over the battlefield or drive? I can drive you to the battlefield or meet you there. We can use one car or two. Whatever works for you.

Here is an example of our flexibility. A gentleman from Michigan called us to say he was passing through the Valley and had just one day only to see FIVE (5!) battlefields. He asked if we could help him. Of course, we accepted the challenge. We exchanged two emails and arrived at a plan. We met in McDowell, Virginia, around 8 a.m. and walked over the battlefield there. We then spent seven hours visiting four other battlefields in the southern end of the Valley — Waynesboro, Piedmont, Cross Keys and Port Republic.

The gentleman Wolverine was a man on a mission! Five battlefields and 150 miles of driving is an extreme example of a specialized tour, but we were glad to make it work. It was an fun and unforgettable day.

Whether you wish to see one place or seven, we will work with you to come up with a plan that will make you happy.

Start the conversation, and we will start the planning. We look forward to hearing from you!

Bill Miller was excellent guide, and we almost never stopped discussing Stonewall Jackson’s 1862 campaign — from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm!

I strongly recommend taking this tour. I did Cross Keys and Port Republic with guide Bill Miller. He was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to customize the tour based on my knowledge of the war & my areas of interest. By walking the ground I gained a much greater understanding of the topography & challenges faced by both opposing forces. Thank you.
